Nitro Match Results Match Results Disco Inferno d. Lyn Denton Wearing a very flashy silver ensemble, Disco dazzled Deton before the match had even begun. Denton did manage to use his size advantage to muscle the former TV Champion, but Disco rebounded with a surpirse piledriver for the win. Yuji Nagata d. Tokyo Magnum Magnum -- a student of Ultimo Dragon's -- was treated to some painful extra-curricular action at the hands of Nagata. A master of submission wrestling, Nagata applied countless holds to the newcomer, but fell prey to an off-the-top huracanrana. The rookies momentum didnt last long. Nagata regained his senses and locked in his figure-four variation for the submission. Public Enemy d. Sick Boy and Horace with Lodi The Flock members looked impressive against their more established opponents, controlling Rocco Rock and Johnny Grunge with superior tagging and Ravenesque dirty tactics. Lodi introduced a stop sign to the mix late in the bout, but the international object ended up being the downfall of his team. Horace not only ended up striking Sick Boy with the sign, but felt the cold steel himself when Rock executed an off-the-top shoulder-block. Rock scored the pin on Horace for the win. Goldberg d. Rick Fuller US Title Match Goldberg's latest winwas momentarily halted by a huge sidekick, but the US Champ shook it off and Goldberg hit the Head Spear and the Jackhammer for the win. Alex Wright d. Eddy Guerrero Pre-match, Chavo made his presence known by patting Uncle Eddy on the tush. Offensive advantage went back-and-forth between these cross-continentals in what proved to be a brutally physical matchup. Eddie seemed to have Wright prone for a Frogsplash, but Chavo once again interfered. Chavo addressed his Uncle via the microphone with psychotic babble. The distraction allowed Wright to hit a hangman's neckbreaker for the pin. Post-match, Chavo continued his delusional rant. A frustrated Eddy ran back to the dressing rooms. Konnan d. Riggs with Lodi The Wolfpack's baddest hombre, K-Dawg relied on his knowledge of submission wrestling until Riggs unloaded with a more aggressive attack. The Flock member struck with a mix of Luchador aerials and good ol' fashion street-fighting. (Lodi's distractions didn't hurt either.) But the Mexican superstar managed to avoid a missile dropkick and apply the Tequila Sunrise for the vicotry. Steve McMichael d. Stevie Ray Both of these men have only recently returned to in-ring action, but their respective hiatuses didn't seem to slow them down. A bout between two classic bruisers, fans saw few technical holds but plenty of old-school fisticuffs. Mongo enjoyed an early advantage, but Stevie Ray showed his experience edge by throwing Mongo into the ring steps. The Harlem Heater tried to follow up the move by whacking McMichael with a chair, but Chris Benoit -- who had been attacked backstage by Stevie Ray -- came out to save the former Horseman. Booker T then ran out and broke up a potential fight between the Crippler and his brother. Stevie Ray left in disgust and was counted out. Bret Hart d. Chris Benoit A match for the ages, the first encounter between fellow Canadians Hart and Benoit lived up to expectations, and then some. Both men took turns controlling the pace, but it was Benoit who rose to the challenge near the end. Putting out the Hitman with a superplex, The Wolverine applied the Crippler Crossface. Hart escaped the first attempt and, before Benoit could try again, Stevie Ray ran down to the ring. The distraction allowed Hart to use an international object to level The Crippler. Hart put Benoit in the Sharpshooter. Referee Billy Silverman deemed Benoit unable to continue. Kevin Greene d. The Giant Pre-match, Curt Hennig, Rick Rude and the Giant attacked Greene during an interview with Gene Okerlund. After another backstage debacle, JJ Dillon agred to let the Giant and Greene fight. The Carolina Panther berated the Giant with a series of tackles, but fell prey to a vicious clothesline. The 7'4" Superstar manhandled his opponent until Greene struck with a low blow. As Greene regained control, Hennig, Rude, Brian Adams and Vincent swarmed the ring, causing the DQ. The black-and-white pummeled Greene until Goldberg arrived from the dressing room and cleared out the NWO. (During the U.S. Champ's football days, Goldberg and Greene were roommates.) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

1998 KING OF THE RING RESULTS | THE HEADBANGERS AND TAKA MICHINOKU VS. KAIENTAI World Wrestling Federation Light Heavyweight Champion Taka Michinoku opened up the encounter with an offensive aerial strike against his foes--gaining some revenge for their recent attacks. After the Headbangers hit Funaki with a Flap Jack, Taka nailed his nemesis with the Michinoku Driver for the win. FIRST KING OF THE RING SEMI-FINAL MATCH KEN SHAMROCK vs. DOUBLE J w/ Tennessee Lee Double J wisely worked on Shamrock's ankle to start the bout, and relied heavily on interference from Lee to strengthen his odds. However, the country music star soon fell victim to the World's Most Dangerous Man, and was soon forced to tap out to his ankle submission. SECOND KING OF THE RING SEMI-FINAL MATCH DAN "THE BEAST" SEVERN vs. THE ROCK The co-leader of the Nation handled his No Holds Barred foe well, striking with a series of clotheslines and hitting with the People's Elbow. However, one of the Beast's recent casualties would come back to haunt him, as D'Lo Brown--wearing a protective chest plate--interfered in the match. Brown hit Severn with a Frog Splash with the top rope, allowing The Rock to advance to the finals against Shamrock. AL SNOW AND HEAD vs. TOO MUCH Prior to the match it was announced that Jerry "The King" Lawler would serve as special referee for the bout. The addition of "The King" would help "Too Sexy" and "Too Hot", as they liberally double-teamed Snow several times. However, after battling back and hitting both Taylor and Christopher with the "Snow Plow", Al failed to notice Head defenseless in the ring. "Too Sexy" took advantage, and pinned Head with a bottle of Head and Shoulders shampoo! As stated in the stipulations, Al and Head are now forced to leave the World Wrestling Federation! X-PAC w/Chyna vs. OWEN HART During the contest, Mark Henry interfered in the match by splashing X-Pac on the outside. However, this drew the ire of Vader, who subsequently entered the melee to confront the World's Strongest Man. Back in the ring, Owen had X-Pac in the Sharpshooter--until Chyna broke it up with a DDT. After the assault, X-Pac covered Hart for the win. WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS THE NEW AGE OUTLAWS VS. NWA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS THE NEW MIDNIGHT EXPRESS Bob Holly and Bart Gunn were impressive against the DX members, and worked on Road Dog for much of the match. But Jim Cornette crossed the line of fire by entering the ring and was abruptly stopped by Chyna. After nailing the Louisville Lip with a low blow, the Outlaws hit Bart with a Stun Gun for the victory. KING OF THE RING FINALS KEN SHAMROCK vs. THE ROCK Triple H and Chyna of DX were guest commentators for this bout and nearly came to blows with The Rock when the Intercontinental Champion confronted them at ringside. Inside the squared circle, the co-leader of the Nation concentrated on Shamrock's ankle, but it wasn't enough to stop the former UFC Champion. The World's Most Dangerous Man would soon force The Rock to tap out of the ankle lock submission, thus becoming the 1998 King of the Ring! HELL IN A CELL THE UNDERTAKER vs. MANKIND Many wrestling insiders called this truly one of the most memorable matches in World Wrestling Federation history, as Mankind nearly obliterated himself! To start the brawl, both men battled on top of the structure, with the Boiler Room Dweller falling from the peak of the structure through the announcing table! After refusing medical assistance, Mankind return to the cell, only to be chokeslammed THROUGH THE TOP AND DOWN INTO THE RING! Still, Mankind would not give up and produced a bag of thumb tacks, which he poured in the ring. This would prove costly for Mankind, as the Undertaker chokeslammed and Tombstoned his foe on the tacks for the win. FIRST BLOOD RULES FOR THE FEDERATION TITLE: Champion STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN vs. KANE w/ Paul Bearer Much of this aggressive bout took place in the aisle, as Austin and Kane brawled through steel security rails--knocking out the referee in the process! After getting the action back in the ring, Mankind appeared once more--this time armed with a steel chair. The Undertaker soon followed, not only knocking out the referee and pouring gasoline on him, but also smashing Stone Cold with a steel chair. Busted open and bloodied from the Undertaker's strike, the referee came to and awarded the bout to the NEW FEDERATION CHAMPION KANE!!
